How to Speed up Mac via Repairing File Permission?

After purchasing Mac machine, it is hard to mention about the time span, when Mac would start behaving slow. Over a period of time, a user starts noticing the slow speed and few glitches while accessing files and applications. To get back the rapid speed for Mac, user starts
  • Deleting unused widgets existing on dashboard
  • Manages browsers with overloaded extensions
  • Manages favicons on Safari Browser
  • Deleting those messages from massive Mailbox which are of no use
  • Listing and removing duplicate files, folders from Library area
  • Manage cluttered desktop occupied with lots items
  • Emptying the trash
  • Turning off 'Animated Wallpapers' which impact the performance
  • Manage Internet settings by clicking Reset Safari

and lots of other activities to clean up and speed up Mac. On the other hand, users try to remove Caches, Log Files and Temporary Files manually (in Home/Library/Cache) in OS X to free up the valuable space in disk; but have you ever noticed the 'corrupted preference files' of an application, which cause Mac too slow. If not, then it's the time to recognize when you access any application and due to that application, does Mac get slow? If yes, then try to delete the preference files and relaunch the application.

Preference Files of an Application
Every file has its preference file. Many times, while launching any program or application, these files get corrupted and restricts Mac machine to work fast. Therefore, these preference files can be deleted manually as shown in image. On the other hand, it is good to make a backup copy of all the files, in case you loose any important settings, which is hard to set back.

iTunes Smart Playlists
If iTunes are in more use by a user in Mac machine then please concentrate on the 'Smart Playlists' which make Mac slow while 'Live Updating' operation. Go to File> Edit Smart Playlists and uncheck the 'Live Updating'. Definitely, it will speed up Mac OS X instantly.

File Permission Conflicts
Additionally, It is also important to emphasize on the set of 'File Permission' which are set for all the files in OS X to determine which users or applications can have access to them. If any incompatibility (like any wrong permission set by user, any mismatch in 'key system files' with the settings set in OS X) occurs with these permission then conflicts arises and restricts Mac to work slow.
Repairing these permission are so easy.
  • Go to Disk Utility (Applications> Utilities> Disk Utility)
  • Select boot drive and click on 'First Aid' tab in upper side as shown in image
  • Click on Repair Disk Permissions button

To avoid any potential permission conflicts, please do not install any system update before 'file repairing permissions' activity.
As you accomplish the permission repair process, this message will be shown

Moreover, if Mac boot drive is facing issues and forces to boot from CD/DVD then CD/DVD initially came up with Mac machine can be used to boot and file permissions on your boot disk can be repaired with Repair Permissions feature.

Once you do it, then try to re-run 'Repair Permissions' feature again, once you boot off the boot disk. It is so, because some permission does not get organized in a one process. Disk Utility catches the information from the “Bill of Materials” file residing in Application 'Receipt file'.

If your Mac is still behaving slow after manually deleting temporary files and other unwanted items then Try the above mentioned solution to speed up Mac and don't forget to take successful backup of important data. Make sure about the version installed in your OS X and other third party application.
