Every user wants to keep his Mac in an optimized form by all
means. Millions of OS X users upgrade their machine in order to get a fine
tuned Mac. Even, experts also give precious advices to Mac newbies for
improving and maintaining performance like maintaining data backup and removal
of junks, caches and temporary useless files, widgets etc. But this is not an
end point of Mac Optimization process; because Mac users don’t find a speed up
Mac even after removing the system junks and rebooting process. Now, the
question arises, if Mac is still slow at performing the simple operations after
deleting redundant data and useless applications then how Mac can be optimized?
Have you heard about SMC in Mac machine? ‘Resettlement of
Mac SMC’ can work well in this situation. No doubt, it’s another type of
optimizing slow/non working Mac, but only for Intel Mac users.
What is System Management
Controller (SMC)?
SMC is a system which manages a number of core functions depending
upon the Mac machine model. For example, it discovers different issues (network
connection, Mac cooling fans, power battery and improper light management) and
responds at improving Mac efficiency. Moreover, it controls built-in display
backlighting, sleep mode, trackpad functions and keyboard lightening too.
When to go for
Resetting SMC in Mac?
If you are done with the common Speed up Mac activities and
still it is performing slow/sluggish then it is the time to think about SMC
resettlement. ‘SMC’ controls a big area in Mac; but if Mac machine is
encountering the below mentioned issues than SMC resetting can be performed to optimize Mac.
- If cooling fan is not working well or running at high speed inspite of low CPU usage in Mac machine
- If an External Display is not exhibiting proper lightening or not working well
- If Mac is not working well on turning off/on or shows improper results in sleep mode
- Improper Light Issues like keyboard lightening or battery indicatory lights not working well
- External ports or airport capsules are working out of order
- WiFi or Bluetooth connections are not showing correct results
Please verify for the Mac model; i.e. Are you working on a MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac or Mac Mini? You can check this by clicking on ‘Apple’ icon (situated in top left side in desktop area) and click on ‘About This Mac’ option. A message box will be prompted containing information like installed OS X version and Mac model.
If it is MacBook
or MacBook Pro (Non Battery) then
- Please shut down Mac machine firstly.
- Try to connect power adapter with Mac machine.
- Press Shift+Control+Option keys and the Power button at the same time and release it
- Now, Reboot Mac machine as usual
If it is MacBook
or MacBook Pro (Detachable Battery) then
- Shut down Mac machine firstly.
- Remove Battery from Mac machine
- Disconnect power adapter
- Press and hold power button for 10 seconds
- Release power button after 10 seconds and reconnect battery and power adapter with Mac machine
- Once you do it, Turn on Mac and let it reboot as it goes.
If it is iMac or Mac Pro or Mac Mini then
- Like above, shut down Mac machine.
- Disconnect Mac from the Power cord
- Try to press Power button for 5 seconds
- Release power button after 5 seconds and reattach power cord
- Once you attach power cord, reboot Mac machine as usual
Be careful at following the above mentioned easy steps and
before carrying your slow/non working Mac to repair store.
