MacBook is getting thinner, lighter and more powerful to please
more and more Mac users and allow them to keep MacBook in their lap for better
working. If we talk about MacBook Pro with retina display, then it has inbuilt
fans which work hard to keep CPU status cool and operating at uniform and
stable temperatures. Despite these built-in fans, temperatures of Mac’s CPU can
go from 50 Celsius to 60 Celsius while handling some CPU-intensive tasks. However
MacBook Pro can handle that kind of heat, but it starts to suffer as
temperature cross 75 Celsius.
Electronic components like processor, memory, battery and
even hard drive gets overheated after a time period and creates physical
discomfort to user. Nowadays, overheating problem related to Macs especially
MacBook can be observed significantly. Heating issues not only reduces the life
span of electronic components but also it won’t allow MacBook Pro to work for
long last.
How to check the System
Heat Temperature?
There are many free apps like ‘Temperature Monitor’, ‘Marcel
Bresink Temperature Monitor’ that help in monitoring the temperature level of
MacBook Pro’s components like CPU, processor, graphics card, memory, battery
and even your hard disk.
To regulate and control MacBook Pro’s fan speed, there is an
advance program “smcFanControl for Mac”. It works well for those who are Mac
experts, who knows how to control fan speed and up to what limit?
MacBook Pro with Retina
Display
It has been observed that to exhibit proper pixel resolution,
especially in the case of MacBook Pro with retina display, all the major
components like CPU, graphics card, memory and hard disk work hard to deliver
the stunning 2880 X 1800 pixel resolution. Internal fans keep CPU and other
critical component temperature level under control for maintaining an optimize Mac. But over crossing a
specified limit, system tends to get hot and doesn’t work well.
How to Control Heat
Issue?·
- Via External Fans
Apart from internal fans, external fans are also used for
faster results. It comes in many shapes and sizes to bring out performance,
stability and better durability for Mac system. Even they don’t consume more
power because most of these external fans work on USB power. Please be careful
while choosing external fans because above all at the end, battery of MacBook
Pro would be consumed.
- Via System Preferences
Manufacturers are trying to focus more on this excessive heat
issue but still users are facing discomfort. If you are a MBP with Retina
Display user then up to some extent, this issue can be resolved by simple manual
settings via System Preferences in Mac OS X. Although, this setting shows
effective results but user needs to wait till 10 seconds.
Mac’s graphics work (like Adobe Photoshop, Final Cur Pro) gets
accomplished by the graphics card alone rather MacBook Pro’s CPU system. So,
unchecking the ‘Automatic Graphics Switching’ setting option can reduce the
heat process up to a good level.
System Preferences >> Energy Saver >> Uncheck
Automatic Graphics Switching
In some MacBook Pro models, the above settings wouldn’t be
available. Please try this one
System Preferences >> Energy Saver >> Graphics >>
Choose “Better Battery Life”
Other ways to prevent MacBook Pro from overheating
- Use hard surface rather Soft base
Make a habit of using MacBook Pro on hard surface like table
or bench rather using on soft surfaces such as couch or bed. Because placing
MacBook Pro on soft surfaces don’t allow enough space for blowing out hot air
properly. This hot air, without an escape, circulates inside the MacBook Pro
and results in elevated heating.·
- Good Cooling Temperature
Try to use MacBook Pro in the rooms equipped with proper
cooling temperature rather abnormally hot. As it can affect overheats more
quickly.
Above all,
‘heat sink’ (conductor of heat or any metal surface) can be used as an
alternative to reduce heat.
