How to Speed up Slow Mac OS X Yosemite? (Part-I)

In this computerized stream, many of us love to try the latest technologies, stunning applications and seek to reap the benefits. While exploring unique features in order to get good results, we get nothing and left with bare hands only. Different unknown issues come into existence and keep halting the fruitful results in mid-of-the way.

If we talk about the latest Mac OS X 10.10 version then Apple made it stronger than OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Yosemite carries many unique features and modified browsers too. No doubt, many of us must have downloaded and installed Yosemite and faced different problems like software hardware incompatibilities, configuration errors and system slow down. Usually, Mac users upgrade their system in order to get a fine tuned machine without rainbow wheels or a brand new Mac. But initially they get opposite responses and capturing the goodness is beyond their reach.

If you are one of those who have upgraded Mac machine and a little confuse with the slow system behavior then please follow the below mentioned tricks to speed up Mac machine before attempting to the vast troubleshoot efforts.

Repair hard drive, File permissions, and reset hardware checks

Firstly, reboot Mac system several times to ensure that boot drive’s formatting and system hardware variables are set up properly. But these both steps can most quickly be done by following these steps:
  1. Restart your Mac by going to Apple menu and select ‘Restart’ option. Hold Command-R down immediately, to boot into Recovery Mode. (Don’t force Mac machine to restart by pressing control-command and the power button at the same time. Quit from the active accounts and then restart)
  1. Open Disk Utility in the OS X Tools window.
  1. Select your hard drive device (after selecting Mac HDD, a “Partition” tab will appear).
  1. Go to the ‘First Aid’ tab in the upper top side and click the button to ‘Repair Disk’ situated a little down in right side.
  1. Now again select your startup volume (this time, “Partition” tab will not be appeared after selecting drive).
  1. Again click the ‘Repair Disk’ button.
  1. While we are at it, click the ‘Repair Disk Permissions’ option to ensure file permissions are set in correct modes that allow proper access (don’t worry, if you see few warnings, show up while running this option).
  1. Once this repair process gets finished; shut down your Mac simply.
  1. It’s the time to perform the steps of resetting your System Management Controller (SMC). SMC organized many core functions to resolve different system slow down issues. These steps are different for each Mac model, but are easy to follow even by any Mac newbie with a few keypresses.
  1. To initiate SMC reset process, start up your Mac and hold down the Option-Command-P-R keys immediately in combination when the boot chimes sound come to reset the system’s PRAM. If the boot chimes sound comes again then release the keys to allow the system gets reset automatically.
  1. Once you hear the boot chimes sound again then quickly switch from the combination of ‘Option-Command-P-R’ keys to holding the ‘Shift’ key down and boot your Mac into Safe mode. In Safe Mode, you should see “Safe Mode” in red text along the top-right of your menu bar at the login window. If you are not able to see this then try again by rebooting and holding the Shift key when you hear the boot chimes.
  1. It’s the time to boot Mac machine in Safe Mode to allow few built-in maintenance tasks to run correctly. When you come across to the login window in Safe Mode, restart (by pressing the power button till system shut down) again to boot normally for verifying and repairing directory issues.

Hope, after following the above steps, definitely the speed of Mac Yosemite will be improved.
