If
you buy an Apple Mac system then you won't be limited to just Mac's
own OS X. Boot Camp
is a built-in
utility in Mac for running Microsoft Windows at native speed with the
same hardware. If your Mac is running OS X v10.5 or Mac OS X v10.6
then boot camp assistant support software can be installed by Mac OS
X installation DVD. Else if your Mac machine is running with OS X
10.7 or later, windows support driver directly from 'Boot Camp
Assistant' can be downloaded very easily. After proper download
procedure completion, Windows OS can be installed using DVD or
downloaded version.

If
boot camp assistant v5.1 is presently installed in Mac then Windows
XP, Windows Vista, and Enterprise
versions of Windows
7 and Windows 8 are not supported. To get the above mentioned Windows
version, install Boot Camp 4 which supports 64-bit and 32-bit
versions of Windows 7, depending on the Mac model you have.
Requirements
To use Boot Camp software,
first you need to backup important data and then follow the below
mentioned instructions:
- An Intel-based Mac with proper hardwar configuration; built-in keyboard, external USB keyboard, or an Apple supplied wireless keyboard, and a built-in trackpad, USB mouse, USB trackpad, or Apple supplied wireless mouse or trackpad.
- Mac must be running with OS X v10.5 or later.
- Mac must be updated with the latest available Firmware updates.
- Choose Boot Camp Assistant, by navigating through Applications> Utilities. You can also access this software by opening Launchpad and by typing Boot Camp Assistant in the Finder bar.
- Now its the time to install Windows either by A DVD or downloaded (ISO) "full version" of Windows installation media.
Issues in Boot Camp Partitioning
Once
you installed Windows on Mac with a desired space on drive; later you
can resize the partition allocated via boot camp utility by easily
dragging the box downwards to occupy the blank unused space. But
sometimes, it doesn't appear as easy as it comes and creates
issues in installing Windows 8. Many normal errors comes into
existence while boot camp partition such as:
- Partitioned Failed (Your disk could not be partitioned)
- Remove Disk Media
- Boot Failure
- Thunderbolt devices do not get recognized as connected with Mac etc.
- OS X version upgrade (from Windows 7 to Windows 8) issues
- Suitable boot camp support version for Windows.
Problem:
Your disk could
not be partitioned
“Disk
could not be partitioned because some files can not be moved”, this
kind of the error can be seen, when user initiate to select partition
for installing Windows via Boot Camp in Mac.

Solution:
To
resolve this issue, run 'Verify Disk' from
Disk Utility on the drive. If any issues popedup, run 'Repair Disk'
while booted to your Mac OS X Install DVD. In case, if no issues get
raised, try creating a secondary partition via Disk Utility. Make
sure you have the volume showing the size of the selected drive and
not your boot drive voume (Macintosh HD). If the partition creates
successfully, delete the second partition and drag the line downwards
to fill the blank window. If successful, try making a partition with
Boot Camp Assistant.
Conclusion:
Though
it is handy to install Windows on Mac machine. But, large fragmented
files or corrupted system files create issues. So it is recommended
to backup your important data onto an external drive before
installing Windows or another OS and make sure your hard drive is
formatted as an Extended Journaled in a single partitioned. In case,
if something goes wrong then essential data could be restored.
